Laboratoire Arago
Yesterday we went to the aquarium in Banyuls sur Mer. It is part of the Labatoirre Arago and run by the Universite de Paris. The tickets cost 8.80 Euros and it was worth it.
The sea spider had eight legs just like a spider, but with a hard shell and we think it was missing a leg (you can see the holeon the left!) It shared a tank with a brown scorpion fish, probably because the scorpion fish couldn't hurt the sea spider with it's tough shell.
The octopus, la poulpe, was red with bumpy white dots. It swam sideways using it's arms, or tentacles. The eyes were on top of it's head looking to the side.
As we were walking out, the director of the aquarium stopped us and told us we could touch the sea animals in the tank with our hands! There were starfish, les asterides, sea cucumbers (concombres de mer), small fish, and sponges (spongaires). When we touched them, they moved in our hands. The starfish was hard and bumpy. The sponges were squishy and the salt water was cold and stung my hand.
Karl gripping his Langenscheidt French dictionary and pointing out some groupers and loups de mer in the tank. Johann posing for the camera, notebook in hand.

Hi Johann, Karl, Janet, and Chris,
Just checking in on your activities on Sunday night. What great pictures you shared of the aquarium! I can't wait to share them with Megan, Cordell, and the associates at school.
Karl, Kelly had her appendix out on Thursday. Mrs. Every and I went to see her at the hospital this afternoon.
Johann, Megan flew home from DisneyWorld today. I'm looking forward to hearing about her trip. Mrs. Glawe and her family got home from DisneyWorld last Friday.
Tomorrow we are having staff development.
The weather has gotten much warmer - in the 20's today.
Have a great week....will write again soon.
Miss Glime

Hello Sauer Family!
We were just looking at your pictures from the aquarium. They were wonderful pictures!!! Riley says they look cool and Lexie wants to know when we can go. It has warmed up quite a bit here in the last few days. A lot of the snow is leaving us but the way it sounds we will be getting freezing rain on Friday(2-23) and Saturday and then it is going to snow again for a couple of days.
Everyone here sure misses you! I think that Riley asks me every week when it is that you are coming back. Spring school pictures are tomarrow. We had to go get Riley's hair cut so it would look nice.
Well I suppose that I should go. Lexie is almost done with her Girl Scout meeting.
Miss you!!
The Darrow Family
Janet, Chris, Karl, and Johann,
I have looked at your blog before, but I didn't know how to respond to it until now. All I can say is...WOW!!! What an amazing experience you are all having over there! You are seeing so many cool things, and the pictures say so much more than words could ever say. You are making such fantastic memories!!
We will be anxious to talk about your 99 days in France when you return to the United States.

Hi Janet,
It's Kari, and I hope you're having a great time there. And I hope to see you here around April. My favorite part of the blog is the jellyfish because it's also from a movie called "Finding Nemo." Because "Finding Nemo" is my favorite movie, and I didn't want you to know, but now you do, because when you watch it, you could also see the jellyfish that's also in your blog. Besides it's so cool for you to see and for me to watch. So I hope you have a good time there, and drive home safely on the 15th!
Watch the mail soon. I am sending a letter. And also, if you are wondering what I am doing on Sept. 10-16, I am doing this musical called "Wicked" and I'm doing it for me, Shawn, and my mom (Deb). And my mom has the part of Glinda. And you could be in the audience watching, and I hope you have a good time there, because it's all me that's doing this, by myself. Thank you for watching.
Kari
Dear Johann,
Whats up? Those aquarium pictures were really cool. Was it fun there? Did you do exciting things? Those animals look really cool? How are you and Karl and your mom and dad? We are all good here. We had 4 baby puppies. They are really cute and cuddly. Well in Science we are learning soil and different kinds of it. In math we are learning about dividing numbers. In Social Studies we just took a test over Seattle Washiington, and Indiana. We just got a student teacher today. Her name is Ms. Weber. Mrs Putz was sick yesterday so we had a substitute teacher named Mrs. Shilling. We got out at 11:30 today because we are supposed to get freezing rain and snow. Hope you all have better weather than us.=) How is France are you keeping busy going to all the different places and sights. Have you learned any more new words? We alll miss you here and can't wait to get back!!!! My horse is going to have a baby colt soon. I can't wait. Well I have to go and eat supper hope to see you soon and talk to you later. Goodbye for now. We miss You!
